Police have arrested one suspect and seized a lorry ferrying what is believed to be cannabis sativa along the busy Eldoret–Malaba highway.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, by the National Police Service (NPS), officers based at Baharini Police Station acted swiftly on a tip-off that a vehicle was transporting narcotics.

Concealed in goods

The NPS reported that upon intercepting the vehicle in Turbo Sub-County, officers conducted a thorough inspection and uncovered six sacks of plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The consignment, weighing about 190 kilogrammes, had been carefully concealed beneath cartons of assorted goods in an apparent attempt to evade detection.

Both the vehicle and the evidence were secured at Baharini Police Station,” the NPS statement read in part.

Suspect in custody

The individual arrested during the operation is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Authorities have indicated that further action will follow once the forensic analysis of the recovered substance is concluded.

The NPS confirmed that the matter remains under investigation and emphasised that all due legal processes will be followed to ensure accountability.

“The matter remains under investigation, and the suspect is in custody awaiting further police action. The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to the fight against narcotic drugs and urges members of the public to support ongoing operations by sharing timely information,” the NPS added.
