Police officers have seized four sacks of bhang after a dramatic chase involving a motorcycle rider who defied police orders in Ahero, Kisumu County.

According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the officers were on routine patrol within the town when they spotted a motorcycle believed to be ferrying narcotic drugs. When flagged down, the rider ignored the orders and sped off towards the Kamindubi area.

“Officers from the National Police Service based in Ahero intercepted a motorcycle suspected of carrying narcotic drugs while on patrol within the town. Upon being flagged down, the rider defied police orders and sped off towards the Kamindubi area,” NPS stated.

The officers gave chase, and after a short pursuit, the rider abandoned the motorcycle along with its luggage and escaped on foot.

“The officers recovered four green sacks containing a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. Both the motorcycle and the evidence were secured at Ahero Police Station,” read part of the statement.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the identity of the individual and ensure they are brought to justice.

“The officers recovered four green sacks containing a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. Both the motorcycle and the evidence were secured at Ahero Police Station. An investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect for arraignment,” NPS stated.

Adding;

“The National Police Service remains committed to the fight against narcotic drugs and urges members of the public to support these operations by sharing timely information.”

This comes after police in Bungoma County arrested a suspect on August 22, 2025, after he was found with cannabis and related items during a security crackdown in Lunao Sub-Location, Quarry ‘A’ Village.

In a statement on August 23, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers seized one kilogram of cannabis seeds, seven rolls of bhang, rolling papers, and a homemade roller. The operation was conducted by a multi-agency team drawn from Bumula Police Station and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs).

The suspect was taken to Bumula Police Station for processing ahead of arraignment, with the exhibits secured as evidence.

“The National Police Service continues to achieve success in its relentless fight against the use of illicit brews and drugs across the country and commends the public and various governmental institutions for their continuous, unwavering support.”
