Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta over the weekend attended the wedding of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) executive secretary Workneh Gebeyehu’s son Captain Amanuel Workneh.

Captain Amanuel Worknehtied the knot with her lover Captain Mahilet Terefe.

“Former President Uhuru Kenyatta joined other distinguished guests in Addis Ababa over the weekend to celebrate the wedding of Captain Amanuel Workneh and Captain Mahilet Terefe. Captain Amanuel is the son of Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of IGAD,” a statement from the Office of the Fourth President of Kenya stated on Monday, May 5, 2025.

During the joyous ceremony, marked by vibrant cultural displays, Kenyatta extended his warmest congratulations to the couple, wishing them a future filled with love, unity, and shared success.

In a statement after the wedding, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu wished the newly-weds a life full of love, joy and blessings.

“Heart overflowing with joy as we celebrate the magical union of our son and his beloved! A day filled with love, laughter and unforgettable moments. To our incredible family, friends, and the amazing wedding participants! Your boundless support, effort, and love made this day perfect. Truly blessed to have you all! I wish my son and his newly wed a life full of love, joy and blessings!” Dr Workneh stated.
