Over 100 bulls gifted to Raila Odinga’s family as communities pay final respects
More than 100 bulls were traditionally presented by mourners drawn from different communities to the late Raila Odinga’s family at Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County.
The rare show of unity and respect brought together leaders and citizens from across Kenya who gathered to honour the former Prime Minister’s lifelong commitment to peace, democracy, and national unity.

Raila Odinga, who died on October 15 at the age of 80, was remembered as a towering statesman who devoted his life to fighting for multiparty democracy, social justice, and constitutional reform.
His contribution to Kenya’s political history and his efforts to unite divided communities were at the heart of the emotional ceremony held in his rural home.
Leaders praise Raila’s legacy
Among those who gifted bulls was Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who personally delivered his gifts to the Odinga family home, Kang’o ka Jaramogi, in Bondo.
In a message shared on his official X account on Saturday, October 18, 2025, Natembeya confirmed his contribution and paid a glowing tribute to the late leader.
“Today, I had the honour of making a heartfelt donation of 15 bulls and 15 bags of maize to the family of the late former Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo,” Natembeya wrote.

He explained that his gifts were a symbol of gratitude and deep respect for Raila’s monumental contribution to the nation.
“This gesture is a humble token of my deep appreciation for Raila Odinga’s monumental contribution to our nation and his lifelong pursuit of justice, democracy, and unity among all communities,” Natembeya noted.
Other leaders who attended described Raila as a man of peace who always put the country before personal interest.
They said his leadership inspired generations and helped bring rival communities together during difficult moments in the country’s history.
The presentation of over 100 bulls was seen as a traditional way of celebrating Raila’s life and acknowledging his role in promoting unity across Kenya.
The event reflected the deep respect he earned from people of all backgrounds, marking one of the most symbolic tributes in Kenya’s recent history.
