Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 5 counties on Sunday, June 7

Kenya Power has issued a public notice ahead of scheduled electricity interruptions on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
The temporary blackout will affect parts of five counties within the Western and North Rift regions to allow for routine network maintenance.
In a social media update on Saturday evening, June 6, 2026, the utility firm shared a document detailing the exact locations targeted for the grid work.

The company noted that, “The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (7th June 2026).”
Businesses and households in the flagged spots are advised to plan their activities around the timings to avoid disruptions.
Affected areas in the Western Region
Four counties in the Western Region will experience power supply cuts at different intervals during the day.
In Kisumu County, the interruption is scheduled from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm., touching Kisian Market and neighbouring customers.
Kakamega County will face a longer eight-hour outage from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This blackout will affect parts of Kakamega Town, including Maraba, Kakamega Market, Kenya Seed, and adjacent premises.
In Bungoma County, the lights will be switched off between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. The outage will hit Chwele Market and Busakala School.
During the same period, another disruption will affect parts of Bungoma Town, specifically covering Hola Petrol, Salama Bakery, and nearby customers.
Siaya County is also on the list, with a six-hour outage running from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm affecting parts of Siaya Town. Specific areas in Siaya include Awelo Market, Radio Mikayi, Nyandiwa Market, Bar Olengo School, Seje, and Glory Academy.
Nine-hour blackout in Nandi County
The maintenance exercise will extend into the North Rift Region, where parts of Nandi County will go without power for nine hours.
According to the notice, the interruption will start at 9:00 am and last until 6:00 pm. The utility company lists Kapsasur and Kaimosi as the main areas of focus. This lengthy outage will affect customers in Kaimosi, Chepsonoi, Chepkumia, Tindinyo, and adjacent neighbourhoods.
Kenya Power normally advises customers to treat all electrical installations as live during maintenance periods because power can be restored before the scheduled time.
This comes after several areas within the vast Mt Kenya region also experienced a planned power outage on Friday, June 5, 2026.
