Murkomen responds to reports of police officers’ involvement in robbery

Interior Ministry Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a stern warning to rogue police officers who engage in robbery.
Speaking in Wajir County during the Jukwaa La Usalama event on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, and just a day after a businesswoman in Kiambu was ambushed and robbed by men believed to be police officers, Murkomen said that such elements, if found guilty, will face the music.
He said that the same energy he uses to defend police from unwanted attacks is the same energy he uses to call out those who go against the law.
The cabinet secretary assured Kenyans that the government has a zero-tolerance approach towards criminality within the National Police Service.
He stressed that officers who commit crimes will be held accountable to maintain public confidence in law enforcement institutions.
It is worth noting that Murkomen had earlier issued a directive to enhance accountability following rising concerns over police conduct.
“We have acknowledged that we will punish those who involve themselves in criminal activities. Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has already arrested them,” Murkomen said.
“If there is a police officer involved in robbery, those police officers must be sacked, taken to court, take personal responsibility, and remove such characters from the National Police Service.”

He added that the same rules apply to officers who take part in extra-judicial activities.
Murkomen emphasised that law enforcement cannot be compromised by individuals exploiting their positions for personal gain.

He reiterated that strict accountability measures are in place to prevent such abuses.
Moreover, Murkomen highlighted that officers who maintain integrity and uphold the law will continue to receive the full support of the Interior Ministry.
He urged honest officers to remain steadfast and report any colleagues who engage in criminal or unethical behaviour.

Commitment to law enforcement
All the same, Murkomen stated that public trust is critical for effective policing and warned that rogue officers will no longer operate with impunity.
