Erling Haaland has broken his silence on his decision to opt for a new hairstyle for the new English Premier League season. The Manchester City striker ditched his long blonde hair for a new uniform cut of his hair around the scalp, choosing to unveil the new look just before City kicked off their new league campaign against AFC Bournemouth
Speaking on Saturday, September 6, 2026, the striker admitted he had reservations about the decision but ultimately went ahead with changing his signature look.
“I was a little nervous and scared, to be honest, especially because Zlatan Ibrahimović warned me about it several times!” Haaland said. “I was a bit worried, but everything seems to be going well so far.”
The Norwegian also explained that, rather than it being a spontaneous decision, he had mulled over doing it for a while but was advised against it by people close to him. While his goal-scoring acumen remains intact, the player says he will still grow it back over time.
Growing it back
“I’d been thinking about it for a long time, but the people around me kept stopping me because they wanted me to keep it long,” Haaland added. “I felt that now was the right time for a fresh start after the World Cup, and it was a necessary step. I will let it grow back over time.”
The new haircut has done little to impact his prowess at goal with the striker on Saturday, September 5, 2026, reaching an important milestone with his goal against Coventry, marking his 300th career club goal.
The 26-year-old struck from Antoine Semenyo’s cross heading the ball under pressure from Coventry defender to mark the new scoring milestone and become the fastest player to reach that mark.
Frustrated against Coventry?
The first-half strike means he has now scored against every league opponent he has faced, apart from Sunderland FC.
The striker also explained why he appeared a little frustrated at the end of the encounter, in which City narrowly edged their opponent to stay on the win.
“Yes, a little bit, not too much. I could have scored two more goals and killed the game off, so I was honestly a little disappointed in myself,” he said, showcasing the high standard he set for himself.
