Neagley review: A new mystery puts Reacher’s trusted ally in the spotlight

Neagley is a 2026 action, crime and mystery series from the world of Reacher. The eight-episode series follows Frances Neagley as she takes the lead in a case of her own after years of working alongside Jack Reacher.
Unlike Reacher, where the story usually follows its central character as he moves from one dangerous situation to another, Neagley shifts attention to one of his most trusted allies. The series is set mainly in Chicago, where Neagley works as a private investigator.
The story begins when Neagley learns that a close friend from her past has died in what appears to be an accident. Rather than accepting the explanation, she starts asking questions and looking more closely at what happened.
A case that becomes personal
The death gives Neagley a reason to investigate, but the case quickly becomes more complicated.
Her background makes her different from an ordinary private investigator. Before working in Chicago, she was part of the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit, the same military group connected to Jack Reacher. That experience has taught her how to handle difficult situations, notice small details, and deal with people who may not be telling the truth.

As the investigation continues, Neagley finds herself following a trail that leads to a dangerous group and a much larger problem. What first looks like a suspicious death begins to reveal something more organised.
This is where the series appears to take its strongest turn. The story is not simply about finding out who caused one death. It is about understanding why it happened and how far the people behind it are willing to go.
Neagley steps out of Reacher’s shadow
One of the interesting things about the series is that Neagley is not presented as a female version of Reacher.
She has her own way of solving problems and her own history. Her friendship with Reacher remains important, but the new series gives her room to show what she can do without depending on him.
Jack Reacher does appear in the series, giving the story a familiar connection to the original show. However, Neagley remains at the centre of the investigation.

Other characters include Detective Hudson Riley, Renee Birdwhistle, Keno, Pierce Woodrow and Lawrence Cole. Each becomes part of the mystery as Neagley gets closer to the truth.
What viewers can expect
For viewers who enjoy Reacher, Neagley offers a familiar mixture of action, investigation and danger, but with a different lead character.
The series also has enough of its own story to attract viewers who may not have followed every part of Reacher. Its central mystery is built around Neagley and the suspicious death of someone she cared about.
