Eldas Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Adan Keynan has called on opposition leaders to stop constantly lecturing President William Ruto and instead allow him to focus on his work.

Speaking during a public event in Wajir on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Keynan reflected on Kenya’s presidential history, pointing out that every leader from past presidents to the current occupant of State House has faced scrutiny and challenges.

He emphasised that while criticism is part of democracy, opposition parties should recognise the office of the President and allow the leader to perform his duties without constant interference.

Keynan cited examples of past presidents and how they were respected during and after their terms. He referenced leaders such as Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta, illustrating that each president was afforded space to govern and honourably complete their tenure.

Kila rais amekuwa hapa.

Me nataka kila rais apewe heshima yake. Tunataka Ruto apewe heshima yake, afanye kazi yake kama rais ame chaguliwa,” he stated.

Keynan emphasised the importance of giving President Ruto space to execute his mandate without daily interference.

“We cannot keep comparing and criticising. Let him govern,” he said, highlighting that constructive support helps the country more than constant commentary.

He also commended the president for infrastructural developments across the country, noting that roads and public works projects have been rolled out successfully.

“We should support efforts that improve livelihoods rather than lecture the president every day,” Keynan said, drawing attention to achievements that previous administrations struggled to deliver.

Keynan urged both citizens and political figures to engage positively, rather than focus on constant criticism. “Let us respect the office of the President. Let him execute his duties without harassment,” Keynan said.

He concluded by acknowledging the recent legislative and infrastructural achievements, adding, “Tunataka kushukuru Rais kwa ile sheria ya kipande. Saa hii imetolewa. Ukikosa kuchukua kipande, utajilaumu. Ametengeneza barabara ambazo marais wengine hawakuweza. Hii ni sababu nyingine ya kumpa heshima anayostahili.”
