Kenya Music Festival: Ruto awards each participating institution Ksh5M

President William Ruto has announced that every school and institution that participated in the State Concert of the 98th Kenya Music Festival will receive Ksh5 million to support the development of talent.
Ruto made the announcement in a post on X on Friday, August 14, 2026, following the State Concert held at State Lodge in Bungoma County, where he celebrated the creativity and talent displayed by young performers.
The funding will be provided through the Ministry of Education and will go towards improving infrastructure needed to nurture and develop talent.
“As a result, the Ministry of Education will provide Ksh5 million to every institution that participated in the State Concert to improve the infrastructure needed to nurture and grow talent,” Ruto said.
Government backs young talent
Ruto said the allocation was part of efforts to recognise and support the potential of young Kenyans in the creative sector.
“At the State Concert of the 98th Kenya Music Festival at State Lodge, Bungoma County, we celebrated the extraordinary talent, creativity and promise of our young people,” he said.
He congratulated all the performers, organisers, adjudicators, teachers and parents who contributed to the success of the festival.
Festival showcases young talent
The Kenya Music Festival, held at Kibabii University, attracted tens of thousands of student participants and is one of East and Central Africa’s major platforms for young people to showcase music, dance and other creative arts.
The festival’s broader theme focused on strengthening the creative economy through knowledge, skills and artistic production for sustainable development.
The Ksh5 million allocation is expected to help participating schools and institutions improve facilities and infrastructure used to nurture music and other creative talents.
Ruto also highlighted the need to recognise young scientists and innovators.
Beginning next year, he said, the Ministry of Education will bring winners of the annual Kenya Science and Engineering Fair to a State event, giving them an opportunity to showcase their innovations and share their ideas.
