Winnie Odinga represents late father Raila as he is inducted into the Kenya Publishers Hall of Fame

Winnie Odinga represented her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, at the Nairobi International Book Fair as he was posthumously inducted into the Kenya Publishers Association Hall of Fame.
Winnie shared the news on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after attending the ceremony, where she accepted the recognition on behalf of the Odinga family.
“Today at the Nairobi International Book Fair, I represented Baba as he was posthumously inducted into the Kenya Publishers Association Hall of Fame,” Winnie said.
Winnie reflects on Raila’s legacy
Reflecting on her father’s legacy, Winnie said Raila’s contribution extended beyond his decades in politics and public life.
“His legacy was never just about politics. It was about the power of an informed mind, the courage to challenge the status quo, and the responsibility to leave the next generation better equipped than we found it,” she said.
Winnie’s remarks placed emphasis on Raila’s connection to reading, writing and the exchange of ideas, highlighting a different aspect of his public legacy.
Raila was among the personalities honoured during the 27th Nairobi International Book Fair, which is being held at the Sarit Expo Centre.
Raila recognised for contribution to writing
The Kenya Publishers Association had announced that Raila would be honoured posthumously for his contribution to writing and the publishing industry.
He was recognised alongside veteran publisher Malkiat Singh and librarian and reading advocate Lily Nyariki during this year’s book fair.
Raila was also an author, having published The Flame of Freedom, an autobiography documenting his life and political journey.
The Hall of Fame recognition adds a literary dimension to a legacy that has largely been associated with politics, public service and Kenya’s democratic history.
In her message, Winnie urged people to embrace the values of reading, critical thinking and leadership.
She concluded her message with three words:
“Read. Think. Lead.”
