Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 3 counties on Friday, September 25

Kenya Power has announced scheduled power maintenance that will see parts of three counties experience electricity interruptions on Friday, September 25, 2026.
In a notice issued on the evening of Thursday, September 24, 2026, Kenya Power revealed that the planned maintenance will affect selected areas in Nairobi, Nyeri and Meru counties.
It then advised customers in the affected locations to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the scheduled outages.
“Good evening, please find the areas scheduled for power maintenance tomorrow, Friday 25th September 2026,” the utility company wrote.
In Nairobi, the interruption will affect part of Kitsuru, where electricity will be switched off from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm to allow Kenya Power to undertake maintenance work.
The affected section includes parts of Ngecha Road, Lake View Estate, Mitini Estate and adjacent areas, with customers within and around the listed locations expected to experience the outage during the eight-hour maintenance window.
The utility company has also scheduled maintenance in parts of Nyeri County, where residents and businesses in Muruguru and Gikunju will be affected.
In the Nyeri region, the power interruption is scheduled to run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, with Kenya Power listing Muruguru Market, Muruguru Secondary School, Muruguru Village and Gikunju Maternity among the affected areas.
Customers living near the listed facilities and surrounding locations are also expected to experience the interruption as maintenance work gets underway.
Parts of Meru County will also experience a scheduled electricity shutdown on Friday, with Kenya Power targeting Githindi, Kunati and Kinwe.
The maintenance in the Meru region is scheduled to begin at 8.30 am and run until 5.00 pm, making it the earliest start time among the three planned outages.
Areas listed for the interruption include Kiamikuu Primary School, Kunati Safaricom Booster, Mutewa Secondary School, Marega Primary School and Kangethia Market.
Other affected locations include Athwana Youth Polytechnic, Amatu Village, Akaiga Secondary School, Mulika Dispensary, Mikinduri Dairy, Mukongoro Booster, Mlango Village and Theii Borehole.
Kenya Power also listed adjacent customers in the affected areas, meaning electricity interruptions could extend to neighbouring premises connected to the maintenance lines.
The scheduled outages form part of Kenya Power’s routine maintenance programme, which is undertaken to facilitate work on the electricity network and related infrastructure.
Customers in the affected areas have been advised to take note of the maintenance schedule and plan their activities around the expected electricity interruptions.
For Nairobi residents in the affected section of Kitsuru, the outage is expected to last for several hours during the daytime, while customers in Muruguru and Gikunju in Nyeri will face a similar interruption.
