Morara Kebaso, leader of the INJECT Party, publicly explained his decision to part ways with the opposition alliance, which included Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP party leader Martha Karua, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, among others.

Speaking to a local TV station on the night of Thursday, May 15, 2025, Kebaso cited concerns over tribal-driven politics and the inclusion of leaders with questionable records on corruption as his primary reasons for leaving the coalition.

In addition, Kebaso also cited the inclusion of former government officials in the alliance, arguing that their past involvement in corruption undermines the credibility of the opposition.

Reasons for joining

The INJECT party leader further disclosed that he was called to join the coalition, adding that he attended meetings with opposition leaders to explore potential collaborations. However, he found their discussions largely focused on ethnic mobilisation rather than substantive national issues like healthcare, economic development, and stalled government projects.

He noted that the emphasis on tribal politics disillusioned him, leading to his decision to step away from the coalition.

Unajua ukatai mwito unakata uwitiwalo.

He emphasised that the tactic the opposition alliance are using to unseat Ruto is outdated and does not resonate with the aspirations of Kenya’s youth.
