Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has said that she will not be dragged into hating the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, despite the heated online tirade against him.

Speaking during the funeral service of the MP at the Karabok Primary School, Millie took a combative approach, noting that she would eulogise the MP the way she knew best.

“I have been fighting with my friends on Facebook who want me to give a narrative of Ong’ondo Were, as they know on Facebook. You all know that I am firm and I don’t care whether you like me or not. If you want to walk out of my Facebook, walk. I don’t care. I will speak the truth about the person I know, how I know. You could as well write about it as you know it,” Millie charged.

Stood with Wanga

The Suba North MP remarked that the late MP took the unprecedented position of standing firm with Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga in the previous election, even as other leaders cowered to declare their candidates of choice.

Millie equally observed that the late MP was a straightforward individual, who assured that he would never fight her politically and promised to support the initiatives she had in Suba North Constituency.

The vocal MP also noted that Were was a loyal leader of the ODM Party and a dependable individual in matters advancing the party’s interests.

Loyal to friends

“Ong’ondo was not only loyal to the party but to his friends,” Millie noted. There are some of us who were castigating the deceased but have since changed their minds after witnessing the grand reception of the body of the late MP in his home. Please learn to be loyal, “she observed.

“He had a sense of humanity despite what people have said about him. He would let me in on government information, which resulted in my constituency getting a road; that is why I cannot fight him,” Millie said.

The MP’s tenure was marked by reports of violence meted out on individuals perceived to be critics of his administration during funerals, which the legislator rarely missed while serving his constituency.

“Even if he was the crook that they say he was, where is his voice. To the people of Kasipul, we are proud of you because the reception of your son has put to shame detractors,” Millie remarked.
