Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri has ramped up support for President William Ruto, saying the head of state has brought tangible development and restored peace in the region.

Kiunjuri believes Ruto has earned overwhelming backing from Laikipia residents ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an economic empowerment at Lamuria, Laikipia, on Friday, October 31, 2025, the legislator expressed confidence that Ruto would secure at least seven out of ten votes in Laikipia in 2027, citing visible progress under his administration.

“Come 2027, if I get 7 out of 10 votes from here, then the same votes should reflect on the president because most of the developments we get at the grassroots level are fueled by Ruto,” Kiunjuri said.

“Our country is under a Broad-based government, and every tribe should benefit from it. Let us not be brainwashed by local tribal politics, which might have us drag behind in development.”

This comes days after the ODM Party reiterated its commitment to remain part of President William Ruto’s broad-based government after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The announcement comes despite growing speculation of divisions within the party over whether it should pull out.

Speaking after a Central Management Committee meeting held in Nairobi on Monday, October 27, 2025, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna dismissed claims of disunity and insisted that the party would uphold the late Raila Odinga’s vision of a unified and peaceful nation.

Will ODM support Ruto?

“We reiterate the commitment of the party to the broad-based government until 2027, a relationship guided by the ten-point agenda entered into for the sake of peace and stability of the country,” Sifuna said.

He emphasised that ODM’s participation in government was not an act of submission, but rather a continuation of Raila’s statesmanship and his desire to see Kenya move forward in unity.

“ODM is not just a political party; it is a covenant. A covenant that we, the living, must now renew,” he explained.

“Let us resist the temptation to scatter in despair, or to fight over his political inheritance as leaders often do when giants fall.”

Sifuna maintained that ODM remains united and will stay focused on its core mission of representing the people’s interests.
