Kalonzo endorsed as 2027 presidential candidate

The Wiper Patriotic Front has officially endorsed its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, as the party’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 General Elections.

This happened during a high-profile National Delegates Congress (NDC) held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park.

The proceedings took a jubilant turn when Wiper’s organising secretary announced the formal presentation of the endorsement certificate.

The secretary noted that a certificate had been prepared to affirm Kalonzo as the party’s candidate, and he invited the secretary general to come forward and sign the document on behalf of the delegates who had endorsed Kalonzo.

He added that this was a significant moment that formalised the delegates’ affirmation.

“Your Excellency, we have taken the liberty to prepare a certificate that endorses you as our candidate, and we would like the Secretary General to first come and sit here, then sign it on behalf of the delegates who have affirmed and endorsed you as our candidate for the next general elections. Please come and sign it,” he said.

Kalonzo was then called to rise to the podium to receive the endorsement letter. As he did, confetti rained down across the stadium, and jubilations echoed through the venue.

The secretary noted that the atmosphere captured the historic nature of the endorsement, adding that delegates and family members were invited to pose for photographs with Kalonzo immediately after the presentation.

The event drew several top opposition leaders, underscoring Kalonzo’s growing prominence in national politics.

Among those present were former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, PLP leader Martha Karua, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Members of the Wiper Party’s National Executive Council (NEC) had already endorsed Kalonzo as the party’s presidential flagbearer for 2027 before the NDC.

Acceptance speech

In his speech, Kalonzo Musyoka formally accepted the endorsement from the Wiper Party, expressing his gratitude to the delegates and leadership for placing their confidence in him.

He invoked blessings for the Wiper Patriotic Front, recognising the significance of the moment for the party’s direction and future.

He also emphasised the importance of teamwork within the party, explaining that all decisions and strategies are reached through extensive consultation and collective effort.

“May God bless the Wiper Patriotic Front, and thank you so much for putting confidence in me. And you know we work as a team, we consult and consult a lot as a team,” he said.
