Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has said former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i did not attend the faction’s National Delegated Conference (NDC) to be endorsed for the presidency.

Speaking on a local Radio station on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Kioni clarified that the NDC was meant to prepare the party ahead of the upcoming polls.

Hatukuwa tunamzindua Matiang’i bali tulikuwa tunahakikisha wale wanaotaka kusimama na chama chetu wanapata kikiwa tayari. My friend Matiang’i is a member of the Jubilee party na yeye yuko pale kama mwanachama,” he said.

This comes amid growing speculations that the former CS will be fielded by the Jubilee Party to run for president in the 2027 General Elections.

Already, Matiang’i has declared his ambition to run for the country’s top seat, but faces a bar-gain litmus test in the United Opposition, who are yet to decide who will receive the blessings to compete against President William Ruto.

Kioni has defended Matiang’i’s presence in Jubilee NDC even as he beefs up his political vet for the upcoming contest.

The remarks come just a day after Kioni accused the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, of trying to bully former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Kioni, who made his remarks on Monday, September 29, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, described how the former Deputy President Gachagua sidelined Matiang’i during key meetings.

Matiang’i 2027 plan?

Kioni revealed that when Matiang’i was attending meetings with the DCP team, they would always write his name and put it out there like he did not have a party.

“When Matiang’i was attending meetings with them, they would always write his name and put it out there like he didn’t have a party. And then the biggest thing, and this is not a secret, is that they have sat in rooms and told him, “Don’t join Jubilee,” Kioni said.

In addition, while describing how Gachagua tried to bully Matiang’i, he recalled past experiences where Gachagua publicly told Matiang’i to go to Kisii and come with a village party so that they could negotiate his contribution to DCP.

“In fact, on one occasion, you can remember Gachagua telling him, ‘Go to Kisii and come with a village party; come and negotiate,’” Kioni added.

Matiang’i will kick off his campaign in the Mt. Kenya region in August 2025 with a bold declaration that nobody can buy him off to abandon his mission of becoming the next head of state.

While expressing confidence that he will win the next general election, he called on the vote-rich region to back his bid, affirming that he will be in the race, vowing to send President William Ruto home.

” I cannot be bought, bullied, or backed out of the 2027 presidential race because I am not anyone’s project. After all, this is my personal decision to come out and help in fixing this nation,” Matiangi stated.
