Kenyan woman who was deported from Saudi Arabia reunites with daughter after 2 years

Kenyan woman Peninah Wanjiru has reunited with her daughter Precious after more than two years apart following her deportation from Saudi Arabia in 2024.
The reunion came after intervention from the State Department of Diaspora Affairs, which helped in the process. A DNA test later confirmed that Wanjiru was the mother of the minor.
For more than two years, Wanjiru lived with the pain of being separated from her young daughter after she was deported back to Kenya. She had been working in Saudi Arabia before she was forced to leave the country without her child. The separation left her fighting to be reunited with Precious.
In 2025, Wanjiru caught public attention after sharing her experience on social media. She recounted the circumstances surrounding her deportation and explained how she was forced to return to Kenya without her daughter. She continued seeking a way to bring her child back to her.
“Hiyo siku ya ku-deportiwa nilisema mimi siendi nyumbani hadi mnipee mtoto. Tulianza kupigwa. Nilikuwa naongea na yeye mara moja. I am so happy kupata mtoto wangu,” Peninah Wanjiru said on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The long-awaited reunion
Wanjiru said she had refused to leave Saudi Arabia willingly without her daughter when she was being deported. She explained that she had insisted that she wanted the child to be given to her before she returned home. She also said they were beaten during the situation.
The mother said communication with her daughter was also limited during the separation. She explained that she was only able to speak to the child once, making the period apart even harder for her. Wanjiru said she had continued hoping that she would one day be reunited with Precious.
For more than two years, Wanjiru fought to be reunited with her daughter after returning to Kenya. The State Department of Diaspora Affairs later intervened in the matter and helped with the process that led to the reunion. Government officials also aided in the documentation of the minor.
A DNA test was carried out as part of the process and confirmed that Wanjiru was the mother of the child. The confirmation helped establish the relationship between the woman and her daughter. The two have now been reunited after spending more than two years apart.
The reunion brought an end to the long separation that began after Wanjiru was deported from Saudi Arabia in 2024. Her efforts to be reunited with her daughter continued after she returned to Kenya. Wanjiru has now expressed her happiness at finally having her child back.
