Kindiki to opposition: You cannot ascend to power through violence
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has continued with an onslaught on the opposition, saying they will not take the government mantle through violence, even as they maintain their wantam slogan.
Speaking on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, during an engagement event with Meru County Bodaboda representatives and Al-Azizia Football Club players and fans in Îrunduni, Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki said the ruling coalition has no plan to step down.
“We will allow you to ascend to power through violence and looting. Inciting youths and destroying our properties because we are a business community, we will not allow our hard-earned properties to be lost,” he said.

Kindiki said Kenya is a democratic country with well-established structures allowing for one to seek an elective seat without resorting to extremist means aimed at causing instability.
“The idea being pursued by some that you can use violence to control and manage politics is dangerous. They don’t care about the security of the nation, whether there is peace or not. Their only interest is power,” he said.

He said Kenya’s peace and stability cannot be traded for anything, saying the present generation must guard it for future generations.
“We cannot allow such extremists to use violence to push their way to leadership. Violence cannot be an instrument of power. This country belongs to all of us and must be peaceful and sustainable for all, including our children and those who come after us,” he declared.

The DP said that the losing side will always have a chance after five years and therefore should give the elected a chance to serve the people.
“Politics is not enmity. It is a competition of ideas, and if you are elected, you thank God and serve the people. If you lose, you wait for the next opportunity and give it a try,” Kindiki remarked.
He insisted that this is the time for them to work for Kenyans and deliver on the promises they made during the campaigns.
“When the time comes, we will delve fully into politics because we know we are the best at it. For now, we don’t want to lose focus. We want to complete ongoing projects and start others for the benefit of the people,” the second in command asserted.
