KRG claims most United Opposition politicians are selfish

Musician and entrepreneur KRG the Don has weighed in on Kenya’s evolving political landscape, claiming that many leaders associated with the emerging United Opposition are driven by self-interest rather than a shared vision.
Speaking during an interview with the Mic Cheque podcast, KRG said he knows some of the politicians personally, while others he has observed through their political careers, leading him to conclude that many are pursuing individual ambitions.
“Hii ni honest opinion, hawa watu wato kuna wenye nawajua on a personal level na wengine from the angle sisi tumeona in the political field, wengi wao ni wa selfish ni vile bado wanatafuta kitu,” KRG said.
According to KRG, the unity currently being displayed within the opposition may not last, arguing that internal rivalries are likely to emerge once presidential ambitions become clearer.
“The moment wataskia kuna mtu anataka kwenda mbele, wataanza kufight,” he added.
Despite his criticism, KRG noted that the next general election is still some time away, suggesting that the current political activity should not be taken too seriously.
“Election bado ni mbali na hii siasa ni entertainment kwa wa Kenya,” KRG stated.
United opposition
KRG’s comments come as opposition leaders continue efforts to strengthen cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election. The United Opposition brings together several prominent political figures who have pledged to work together in a bid to unseat President William Ruto.
Among the key leaders associated with the alliance are Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i, Justin Muturi and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who have recently appeared together at various political engagements while calling for a united front.
Recently, Martha Karua said she was ready to serve as the United Opposition’s presidential flagbearer if selected through the coalition’s agreed process. She maintained that the alliance would identify its candidate through consultations and consensus, adding that she would support whoever is eventually chosen if she is not picked.
The opposition leaders have consistently maintained that unity is key to presenting a formidable challenge in the 2027 elections, even as questions continue to emerge over who will ultimately carry the coalition’s presidential ticket.
