Kericho Governor Eric Mutai has lauded Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for what he terms bringing dignity to the office of the Deputy President.

The governor, while addressing Kindiki on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Kericho County, firmly described how Kindiki has commanded respect for the second-highest office in command in the country.

“I want to say this boldly: you have dignified the office of the Deputy President…umeleta heshima nyingi sana,” Mutai said.

Mutai, who attended the Kipkelion East Constituency economic empowerment engagement in Londiani, led by the Deputy President, further praised him for following former President Moi’s steps.

According to Mutai, Kindiki’s stern support for President Ruto echoes the support former and late President Moi gave to the late President Jomo Kenyatta in his capacity as the then vice president.

“The way you are supporting President William Ruto is the same way President Daniel Moi was supporting President Jomo Kenyatta,” Mutai added.

Kindiki’s appointment

Worth noting, President Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki, who previously served as Interior Cabinet Secretary, as his new deputy in 2024 just a day after the Senate voted to impeach Rigathi Gachagua.

After his appointment, Kindiki, who is a 52-year-old former law professor, was sworn in after a court lifted orders barring his inauguration following weeks of legal challenges, hence taking on the mantle of President Ruto’s second deputy in just one term.

In his speech at the swearing-in ceremony, Kindiki termed his predecessor’s impeachment a “testament to the maturity of our democracy and a testament that our institutions work”.

“I will be loyal and faithful to you,” Kindiki pledged to Ruto.

At the time, Ruto said he had almost become a “lonely voice” in the presidency in laying out his government’s development agenda.

“I am confident you will do what I have missed in the last two years,” Ruto told Kindiki.

He further praised Kindiki as a “patriot whose dedication to cohesion, national unity and inclusivity is beyond reproach”.

Gachagua vs Ruto

Former DP Rigathi Gachagua recently launched a scathing critique of President Ruto, questioning both his administration’s ethics and the motives behind key political appointments. Speaking during a church service in Mutituni, Machakos County, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Gachagua said he had witnessed actions by Ruto that compromised integrity and undermined governance.

Gachagua claimed that he refused to participate in such activities, insisting that as a Christian, he could not assist in stealing from or cheating Kenyans.
