Kenya Power announces blackout across multiple counties on Tuesday, December 2

Kenya Power has scheduled power outages across several counties on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to carry out routine maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of the electricity network.

In Nairobi, affected areas include Obama, Riverside Drive, and surrounding neighbourhoods such as Riverside Residency, Pearl Residence, Strathmore School, and the International Organisation for Migration offices.

Power is expected to be off from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, prompting residents and businesses to plan accordingly.

Makueni County interruptions

Parts of Makueni County will also experience planned outages. Towns such as Emali, Nziu, and Kalamba, including key locations like Emali Town, Matiliku Market, Kalamba Fruit Factory, and Simba Cement, will be affected.

Kenya Power has urged residents to safeguard electrical appliances and plan essential activities to avoid disruption.

Central Rift and western Kenya

Sections of Kericho and Bomet counties will face power interruptions, impacting communities including Kaitui Market, Soko Huru, Chepssoo Dispensary, Olposia, and GK Prisons, Kilgoris.

Western Kenya’s Kakamega County, including Shiatsala Butere, Manyyulia, and Mabolole, will also experience outages lasting most of the day.

Mount Kenya and Kiambu region


In Nyeri County, towns such as Rongai, Kakulett, and Kiriani will be affected, alongside Kiambu County areas including Escarpment, Kimende, and Kambaa.

Residents are advised to take precautions and plan their day around the scheduled blackouts.

Coast and Taita Taveta counties

Coastal regions of Kilifi, including Kanamamai and Malindi, as well as Taita Taveta’s Nyache Primary area, will experience similar planned outages.

Kenya Power emphasises that these disruptions are necessary to maintain the national grid and prevent future unplanned outages. Kenya Power has reminded customers to switch off sensitive electronics during the outages and monitor updates via its official website and social media.

Any prolonged outages or emergencies should be reported to the company’s customer service channels.
