Boniface Mwangi praises Babu Owino, calls him brilliant

Activist Boniface Mwangi has praised Babu Owino, describing him as a brilliant mobiliser and saying he respects his ability to bring people together.
Mwangi said Babu was also a good mobiliser for the late Raila Odinga.
The comments came as Mwangi spoke about Babu and his political journey. He said people can change and pointed to what he described as a change in Babu after the shooting of DJ Evolve.
“I think people do change. I think Babu had a Damascus moment when he shot DJ Evolve,” Boniface Mwangi said while speaking on the Iko Nini podcast on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Mwangi said that according to Babu, he stopped drinking and stopped using anything that could affect his judgement. He also noted that Babu has been saying that he wants to lead the city.
“According to him, he stopped drinking, and stopped using any form of …that impairs his judgement,” Mwangi said.
Mwangi speaks highly of Babu
Mwangi said he has no problem with Babu seeking to lead the city as long as he operates within the Constitution. He then highlighted what he said he respects about Babu, pointing to his ability to mobilise people.
“If he can operate within the Constitution, I have no problem with him. The other thing I think about Babu and I respect him, he is a very good mobiliser,” Boniface Mwangi said.
He described Babu as a brilliant mobiliser and also praised his previous work with Raila. Mwangi said Babu played an important role in mobilising people for the late former Prime Minister.
“Babu is a brilliant mobiliser. And he was a really good mobiliser for Baba,” Mwangi said.
“And my hope is that this small disagreement, which has been amplified more by strangers than the people inside, could be dealt with,” Mwangi said.
He said he considers both Babu and Sifuna necessary in the political space. Mwangi linked his comments to the need to remove President William Ruto, while expressing hope that the disagreement between the two politicians would be dealt with.
“Because I think Babu and Sifuna are very necessary to remove Ruto,” Boniface Mwangi said.
