Kasmuel McOure updates Kenyans on Raila’s health amid concerns

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League member Kasmuel McOure has assured Kenyans that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is in good health, dismissing growing speculation over the ODM leader’s condition.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, during an interview with a local TV station, McOure said he had personally spoken to Raila, whom he says is currently on a short break, and confirmed that he was doing well.
This comes after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga strongly defended the former Prime Minister against growing speculation about his health, calling out opposition leaders for spreading misinformation.
He conveyed greetings from the Orange party leader to supporters across the country, particularly those participating in the ODM @20 football tournament set to take place in Mombasa starting from Thursday, October 9, 2025.
“I give greetings to the ODM party members from HE Raila Odinga. Mzee is out on a break; we have spoken, and he is okay, and he sends many greetings to his supporters. As a member of the ODM youth league, I want to assure you he is okay and wish the teams playing tomorrow in Mombasa in the ODM@20 tournament all the best,” McOure said.

His remarks come amid a wave of online speculation regarding Raila’s whereabouts and health after reports circulated on social media suggesting the opposition chief was unwell.
Raila’s team’s clarification
The clarification by McOure follows a similar statement from Dennis Onyango, Raila’s communications director, who on Saturday dismissed the rumours as politically motivated propaganda spread by what he termed “a familiar campaign of misinformation”.
Onyango clarified that Raila had travelled abroad for a private trip and was not hospitalised, adding that the ODM leader has always been open with the public regarding his health.
Elsewhere, women leaders warned their political opponents against exploiting personal matters for political mileage.
Ida Odinga on Raila’s health
Raila’s spouse, Ida Odinga, has also dismissed reports that the veteran politician is gravely ill.
Speaking in Migori on Tuesday, October 8, 2025, Ida questioned where propagandists were getting information about her husband’s health, insisting that he was in good condition and only out of the country for a short rest.
“In the past week, there have been rumours claiming Raila is sick. If his condition were truly as serious as they say, I would have taken him to a hospital here in Migori for treatment,” Ida said.
She expressed surprise that outsiders seemed to know more about Raila’s condition than his own family members.
“How can someone who doesn’t live with him claim to know his health status, while I, who stays with him, am unaware of any issues? What I’m telling you is the truth: Baba is okay,” she added.
