People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has firmly dismissed any possibility of dialogue with President William Ruto’s administration, terming the Kenya Kwanza regime rogue and dishonest.

Speaking during a local TV interview on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Karua said she would not participate in any process meant to “whitewash impunity” and accused the state of using talks as a tool to silence dissent.

“What do you say? Dialogue? Dialogue with the rogue KK regime is not an option,” Karua stated. “Let me remind my friend, the Right Honourable Odinga, that he went for NADCO talks. I was in Azimio then, and I was against those talks.”

Failed NADCO process

Karua said the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which was initiated in 2023, dragged on for a year and ended up serving only political elites.

“The outcome was not pro-people. Other than seats for the big boys, there was nothing. The cost of living remained high,” she noted, adding that NADCO was used as a pacifier to deceive Kenyans.

“William Ruto does not approach issues with honesty. It’s lies, lies, and more lies. What we need is adherence to the law, not more dialogue.”

Karua expressed outrage over the reinstatement of senior police officer Lagat, despite being linked to the chain of command that led to the death of protester Albert Ojuang.

“How on earth can he be returned to work?” she posed. “The law is elaborate; it is impunity that needs curing.”

Message to Raila

She also clarified recent reports that she had held discussions with ODM leader Raila. According to Karua, she only called Raila twice in July 2023 to relay a personal message and to question his conscience about supporting the Kenya Kwanza regime after deadly protests.

“I told him I didn’t want a discussion, just to prick his conscience,” she said. “And I reminded him that without him, this regime would crumble.”

Karua rejected the idea of a face-to-face meeting with Odinga or any joint talks with the government, warning that any engagement would only lead to further repression.

“Ruto comes back from every round of talks with more bloodletting. His regime has killed over 200 people. What talk do you entertain with someone whose boot is on Kenyans’ throats?”
