Karua refutes global recession claims, says Ruto to blame for Kenya’s woes
People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has refuted claims that Kenya’s woes are caused by the global recession, stating that President William Ruto is to blame.
According to Karua, the country is ailing, further revealing that while Kenyans think that the country is at war with itself, it clearly is not; however, it is because of the president.
“Fellow Kenyans, our country is ailing; some even say it is at war with itself, not because of the global recession or pandemic, but because of an epidemic called William Ruto.
Karua, speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Nairobi, also called out Ruto for telling Kenyans that enough is enough.
While comparing the employer and employee relations, Karua called out Ruto for telling Kenyans that enough is enough and that Ruto is employed by the people of Kenya.
“We have heard Ruto say enough is enough, but you cannot tell your employer enough is enough; you can only pack your bags and leave,” said Karua.
Similarly, she accused Ruto of destroying the country’s peace while blasting him for treating Kenyans like the Haitian Militia.

“This has to stop; he can not create a Haiti-like Militia in Kenya to destroy the peace and tranquillity that we have been having,” said Karua.
“This has to stop; he cannot create a Haiti-like militia in Kenya to destroy the peace and tranquillity that we have been having,” said Karua.
Additionally, the People’s Liberation Party leader is now calling on Ruto to vacate office. “We are his employers, and we are telling him enough is enough,” added Karua.
Attack on opposition
Notably, Karua, while making her remarks during the press briefing, noted that she had handed a document with evidence of opposition attacks by the government to IPOA for thorough investigations.
She also affirmed that the documentation details the assaults, injuries, and police misconduct by the police against opposition leaders.
“The united opposition has presented irrefutable evidence to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) regarding the criminal assault and assassination attempts on our leaders. We expect IPOA to treat this evidence with the grave seriousness it deserves. Any attempt to unlawfully take the life of a human being, regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, or rank, must be condemned in the strongest terms possible,” she said.
While further calling forimmediate action against police officers, Karua further addressed the president on the criminal acts allegedly stated to be from above.
“We can no longer tolerate these brazen criminal acts and the subversion of the rule of law simply because of orders from above,” stated Karua.
