Kaluma warns Kamba community against Gachagua

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has lashed out at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, calling him a selfish and hateful leader who only cares about his ambitions.
Kaluma warned the Kamba community against trusting Gachagua, accusing him of pretending to support them for political convenience.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his X account on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Kaluma told the Kamba community to be wary of Gachagua’s sudden show of solidarity. He urged them to look beyond temporary alliances and instead seek unity with the Luo community through the Broad-Based Government.
“Kamba brethren: Please search for your Luo brothers in the Broad-Based Government. This guy is pretending to be with you for his political convenience; he hates other Kenyans and only loves himself,” Kaluma said.

Gachagua in Makueni
The MP made the remarks following Gachagua’s visit to Makueni County on Friday, June 6, 2025, where the former DP drummed up support for Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua, while speaking in Makueni, asked the residents to support Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential bid and vote for Wiper candidates in all elective positions. He claimed that Kalonzo and the Kamba people had long been mistreated and that it was time to restore their dignity.
“A leader is only strong if he has foot soldiers, and Kalonzo will succeed if he has leaders elected through his party. Here in Makueni, you must support Kalonzo by voting for MPs, senators, and MCAs through his Wiper party,” he said.
Gachagua also took the opportunity to criticise President William Ruto’s administration. He said that the government had failed to address the economic challenges facing ordinary Kenyans, including security officers. He accused Ruto of betraying the people and worsening their financial struggles.
“We are here to inform you that the journey to unseat Ruto has started. He has interfered with the pay slip and brought shame to our people,” Gachagua declared.
He claimed that the Mt. Kenya and Kamba communities are like cousins and should join forces in the next election to defeat President Ruto. Gachagua painted a picture of unity and mutual interest between the two regions, emphasising the need for collective action.
Further, he expressed sympathy for police officers, saying they have suffered the most under the current administration. He argued that officers were poorly paid yet expected to maintain law and order.
“These police officers are suffering; we will take care of your needs. We know sometimes you are told to beat us, but when you think about your pay slips, you throw teargas in the opposite direction,” he said.
Gachagua also asserted that some police officers had lost faith in the chain of command due to poor working conditions and dwindling morale.
“They work day and night. Police are told to guard money in the bank while they are broke. Ruto promised to put money in our pockets, but he removed even the little we had,” Gachagua added.
Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua launched a high-paced campaign tour across Makueni and Mombasa counties, beginning on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Dubbed a whistle-stop tour, the opposition leaders spent Friday engaging with residents in various parts of Makueni County, including Malili, Sultan Hamud, Emali, Makindu Town, Kibwezi, and Kinyambu-Kambu/Machinery.
Their itinerary continues on Saturday, June 7, with planned visits to Voi town, Maungu/Taru, Mazeras, Mariakani, and Kisauni in Mombasa County.
