Kaluma praises Ruto’s support for Raila, vows to back him in unity drive

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for the support he showed to the late Raila Odinga in the past years and during his final moments.
Kaluma through X, on Monday, October 20, 2025, said Ruto’s actions demonstrated respect and unity and promised to support the president in honour of Raila’s wishes.

In his message shared online, Kaluma thanked the Head of State for standing with Raila Odinga through different seasons, describing him as a leader who valued the opposition chief even in his final days.
“Thank you President @WilliamsRuto for your support to Baba @RailaOdinga several years back and in the recent past. We will stand with you as you build a more inclusive, equitable Kenya just as Baba guided,” Kaluma stated.

He went on to acknowledge Ruto’s gesture during Raila’s final journey, saying it reflected maturity and political decency. According to Kaluma, the president’s involvement in Raila’s farewell process and his comforting words to the family and supporters left a lasting mark.
Promises total support for Ruto’s leadership
Since the death of Raila Odinga and even before, Kaluma has been urging Odinga’s followers and Kenyans at large to embrace Ruto’s leadership, adding that their commitment would be seen in future elections.
“You President @WilliamsRuto honoured Baba; our Father, Our Mentor and Our Leader. You valued Baba and walked with him in his last days in this ungrateful World. In his death, you stood with us in words and indeed. WE ARE GRATEFUL. WE ARE NOW YOUR PEOPLE,” Kaluma wrote on X.

He noted that Ruto’s cooperation with Raila in national matters had helped ease political divisions and fostered a spirit of togetherness in the country. Kaluma added that it was now their turn to reciprocate the goodwill shown by the President.
“We promise total obedience. We will support and give President @WilliamsRuto two terms,” he said. Kaluma’s message adds to the ongoing calls for political unity and continuity of Raila Odinga’s vision.
His statement comes at a time when leaders across the political divide continue to reflect on Raila’s legacy and his influence in shaping Kenya’s democratic journey even after his death.
