Kalonzo breaks down into tears as he mourns Raila’s death

The Wiper Party Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, broke down into tears at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as he mourned his dear friend Raila Odinga.

In a video shared on his official X account on Friday, October 17, 2025, Kalonzo could be seen wiping his tears with a white handkerchief surrounded by other Wiper Party leaders.

The leader, who was a close political ally of the late Rt. Honourable Raila Odinga later took to his X account, expressing his heartfelt condolences while describing Raila’s life.

“I was joined by the leadership of @TheWiperParty this morning at JKIA, Nairobi. These are truly heavy days for our nation. As we gather to celebrate Raila’s remarkable life, we will find solace in his spirit of courage, unity, and justice,” said Kalonzo.

Worth noting, this comes just a day after Kalonzo’s secretariat confirmed that he had cancelled his UK tour to return to Kenya ahead of the late Raila’s funeral.

According to the Wiper Presidential Secretariat, Kalonzo departed from Heathrow International Airport in London on Thursday evening.

Dignitaries attending Raila’s State funeral

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka confirmed receiving visiting dignitaries from Tanzania at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of the late Raila Odinga’s state funeral.

Through a post on X on Friday, October 17, 2025, Kalonzo said that he had the honour of welcoming the former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, and the Vice President, Philip Mpango, who arrived in Nairobi to pay their last respects to the late Raila Odinga.

“This morning at JKIA, I had the honour of welcoming former President of Tanzania, H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, and the Vice President, H.E. Philip Mpango, who came to Nairobi to pay their last respects to their dear brother and friend, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, EGH.

“Their presence shows just how deeply Raila’s life touched people beyond our borders,” Kalonzo said.

He added that Raila was not only a political icon in Kenya but also a continental figure whose influence and relationships extended across Africa.

“These are truly heavy days for me and for our nation. I have lost more than a political ally; I have lost a brother and a friend.

“We walked together through moments of struggle, hope, and belief in a better Kenya,” he added.
