Journalist Agnes Oloo was on Thursday, December 5, 2024, harassed outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road.

The Oloo were covering Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa who had honoured the DCI summons to appear before it for questioning over an attack that was witnessed at a funeral in Kiambu last week, that had been attended by former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

She was capturing the arrival of Senator Thang’wa and former Limuru Member of Parliament Peter Mwathi, was suddenly attacked by a person who sought to confiscate her camera.

Journalists blocked

Other journalists at the event were also blocked from covering the event.

The attack has been widely condemned, with Advocate Ndegwa Njiru who is representing Senator Thang’wa and Mwathi calling out the police over the incident.

“I am perplexed by the manner in which the police and the state is playing jittery to the media, that you have to be pushed two kilometres away from the DCI headquarters.

“What is this that they do not want people to know? Surprisingly, two individuals are summoned and you can see the water canons, the tear gas and the battalion that has flooded the Kiambu Road,” Njiru stated.

Journalist Ayub Abdikadir, who was also covering the event, has condemned the incident terming it as an outright harassment, intimidation, and obstruction of Journalists.
