Former Kigumo Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau has warned the government against any attempt to arrest Democracy for Citizens’ Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua.

Kamau, who spoke to Kameme TV on Monday, August 11, 2025, said such a move could have serious political consequences for the administration.

He criticised what he termed a culture of chest-thumping in government, where leaders respond to challenges with threats rather than dialogue.

According to Kamau, this approach alienates citizens and fuels unnecessary tensions.

Criticism of the government

“The biggest problem with this government is chest-thumping. This issue of telling people, if you do this, we will do this.

“If you remember, during the Gen Z protests, the Head of State appeared on national TV and seemed as if he was lecturing the Gen Zs. That is the biggest problem in this government,” he said.

Kamau noted that the government should carefully consider the political cost of targeting Gachagua.

“I want to ask the government, if they want to arrest Gachagua, let them proceed. It will cost them greatly in terms of support nationwide,” he added.

Accusations

The former legislator also raised concerns about other contentious issues. “Who doesn’t know that the RSF militias were here in Kenya?

Who doesn’t know that the Gen Zs were killed? Who doesn’t know that Kenya national ID cards are being given to foreign Somalis?” he asked.

Kamau urged President William Ruto to focus on upholding the constitution and ensuring that his administration operates within the law.

“Ruto should know that all is not done; he can decide to rule as per the constitution. Let him call his troops to order,” he said.

Kamau’s remarks come amid ongoing political tensions between the government and the opposition, with Gachagua continuing to criticise the administration on various issues.

The statement is expected to stir debate over how the government handles its political rivals and dissenting voices.

Rigathi Gachagua is on a one-month-long tour of the US, where he has been engaging Kenyans from various states and cities on the current status of affairs in Kenya while rallying them to back his bid to remove Ruto.
