Jamleck Kamau recounts near-death experience during standoff with police in Kigumo
Former Nairobi Metropolitan Minister Jamleck Kamau has expressed serious concerns after a convoy of vehicles ferrying opposition politicians was confronted and repulsed by police officers in Kigumo.
Speaking after the incident on Sunday, July 27, 2025, Kamau, who recently joined the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), challenged President William Ruto against the violence meted out on the politicians.
“Today I was a victim of serious police brutality; my car was attacked, and it has two bullet holes on both sides. I can clearly say with a lot of confidence that they were not targeting my legs. They were targeting my head because where the bullet is is not anywhere near the legs; it is on the windshield,” Kamau said.
Suppressing dissent
“The only thing that saved me was that the vehicle was in motion, and that is the reason why the bullet hit the lower part.”

Kamau stated that he was disappointed that the government had resorted to violence to suppress political dissent, noting that he was present when Ruto had vowed against a recurrence of such practices.
“I want to tell William Ruto that I was present when you said that never again in Kenya shall we shed blood on account of political competition,” Kamau said.
Urges speedy investigation
“Now, we are back to what you had said. If that bullet hit me, William Ruto, what would you have told my children today?” he posed.

He urged investigative authorities to bring all the police officers involved in the standoff to book, stating that such acts only serve to boost their resolve against the Ruto-led regime.
“It is time to sober up, and I want to ask all the investigative agencies that, however long it takes, these people must be brought to justice,” Kamau said.
“If Ruto thinks he is going to cower us, he is only putting a lot of energy not only in us but also in our followers.”
