Starehe MP Charles Njagua has spoken out about his arrest.

The MP said that he is being held at the Nairobi Area Police Station in connection to claims that he incited hawkers on the allocation of stalls in the Mwariro market.

“I’m currently at Nairobi Area. The charges against me are unclear though they seem connected to Mwariro market,” said Jaguar on his Twitter handle.

The first-time MP vowed to continue fighting against what he claims is unfair allocation of stalls in the newly-built market.

Jaguar was arrested on Monday, June 29, several hours after the Nairobi Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega warned politicians against inciting traders on the allocation market spaces.

According to Njega, a special committee led by the Nairobi County Commissioner Flora Mworia has been set to oversee legal and procedural allocation of market spaces to genuine traders.

“There have been some people going around collecting money purporting to allocate traders market stalls. On Friday, last week we had a confrontation between some members of the public and police at Mwariro market which is located in Starehe Constituency that is led by the MP,” said the regional administrator at a press conference in Nairobi in his office.

He said that police are investigating the case together with several other incidents in which politicians have continued to incite traders.

The Nairobi region administrator assured traders in Mwariro, Gikomba, Westlands, and Karandini market (Dagoretti South) that space allocations will be done fairly.
