Former Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) chairperson Irungu Nyakera has congratulated  Mukhisa Kituyi following his appointment as the Spokesperson and Head of the United Opposition Secretariat.

In a statement on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Nyakera hailed Kituyi’s extensive experience in governance and global leadership, noting that his past roles made him an ideal choice for the position.

“Congratulations to Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi on his appointment as Spokesperson and Head of the United Opposition Secretariat. With his global experience as UNCTAD Secretary-General, Cabinet Minister, and respected economist, he is the perfect choice to drive Kenya’s opposition agenda,” Nyakera said.

He expressed confidence that Kituyi’s leadership would sharpen the opposition’s voice in holding President William Ruto’s administration accountable.

“His leadership will expose the failures of this blood-soaked regime and ensure that Ruto becomes WANTAM,” the former KEMSA boss said.

Additionally,  Nyakera dismissed claims of tribalism within the opposition, pointing to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as an example.

“And to those quick to label Rigathi a tribalist, if that were true, why didn’t he appoint Mutahi Ngunyi?” Nyakera posed.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 3, 2025,  by Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Kalonzo Musyoka via a social media post.

The coalition is made up of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua; the Wiper Patriotic Front party, under Kalonzo Musyoka; the People’s Liberation Party, led by Martha Karua; the Democratic Action Party–Kenya, headed by Eugene Wamalwa; the Democratic Party, under Justin Muturi; and the Jubilee Party, which is represented by its chairman, Torome Saitoti, with the backing of former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Although the alliance remains fluid with no registered agreement, the united opposition is actively seeking to unite ahead of the 2027 elections with Gachagua, Kalonzo, Karua, Wamalwa, Matiang’i, Muturi, Kituyi and ex-Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi coordinating efforts to form a united front to unseat President William Ruto at the 2027 general elections.
