Grief engulfed Bonyamasicho village in Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kisii County when a police vehicle hit and killed a middle-aged man, sparking protests by locals and Boda Boda operators.
The man, identified as Misaro was crossing the road at Menyinkwa, along Kisii- Kilgoris Road was hit by the vehicle from Sameta Sub County which was transporting inmates to Kisii law courts.
Ruth Moraa, an eyewitness, claimed the vehicle was being driven at high speed and urged the national government to erect bumps on the road to avoid such accidents.
“We want a thorough investigation to be done so that whoever is found culpable for the death faces the law,” Moraa said as she urged the probe to be hastened.
Area Chief, Yophes Mose said he heard screams and rushed to the scene, adding police officers took the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue to await postmortem.
“ I urge residents to remain calm and be careful when crossing the busy Kisii- Kilgoris highway to avoid such accidents.”
Kisii Police commander, Francis Kooli said they have launched an investigation into the matter and urged members of the bereaved family to be patient as the probe was being conducted.
Terming the incident sad, the commander appealed to residents to be careful when crossing on busy roads to avoid accidents that could claim their lives or leave them injured.
Earlier, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle drove the vehicle to Kisii police station after Boda Boda operators threatened to torch it.
Armed police officers from the station rushed to the scene and picked the body and took it to the morgue.
Locals said the place was a black spot and several people have been hit by speeding motorists and killed while others remained maimed.
