Like snow in Minnesota! Farmer in Kisii laments as heavy rains ruin crops

A farmer in Kisii County has expressed frustration after heavy rains accompanied by hailstones destroyed his maize crop.
In a video that has since gone viral, the visibly distressed farmer is seen walking through his farm, picking up hailstones that had covered the ground. The ice pellets, which fell during the intense downpour, flattened his maize and left the farm looking devastated.
The farmer lamented that the unexpected weather had completely ruined his crops. He questioned how he and other affected farmers would recover from the losses, noting that the rains had caused significant damage in the area. As he moved around the farm, he pointed out the damage, showing how badly they had been battered by the hail.
“Hii ni mchezo bana. Hii mvua imeharibu vitu hapa Kisii. Sasa tutafanya namna gani. . Angalia hapa, sasa hii ni mahindi, “ he said
At one point, he tried to lighten the mood despite the damage. Carrying a jug, he picked up the hailstones and counted them as if they were maize grains. He even compared the rare scene to snowfall in Minnesota, saying the farm looked like it had experienced snow.
“Ni kama snow Minnesota,” he added.
Heavy rainfall
This comes as the Kenya Meteorological Department warned that rainfall is expected in many parts of the country. In its latest forecast, the department indicated that 41 counties, including those in the highlands west of the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria Basin, such as Kisii, are set to receive showers and thunderstorms.

The weatherman further noted that areas in the eastern highlands, including Nairobi, parts of the southeastern lowlands, the Coast, and sections of northwestern and northeastern Kenya, may also experience rainfall, thunderstorms, or strong winds in some regions. Residents in Turkana and Marsabit were specifically cautioned over strong southeasterly winds that could affect small aircraft and boats.
Counties not expected to receive rain were advised to anticipate sunny intervals and partly cloudy skies.
