Goons storm and vandalise hospital in Kitengela

Tensions flared in Kitengela on Monday, July 7, 2025, afternoon as goons stormed and vandalised the Kitengela Sub-County Hospital during Sabasaba demonstrations that turned chaotic.
The incident unfolded after protesters attempted to bring in an injured person who had been hurt during a police confrontation.
However, medical staff, fearing for their safety amid the growing unrest, fled the facility. With no medics in sight and tyres burning just outside the hospital gate, the situation quickly spiralled out of control.

Footage seen by this publication showed a group of unidentified individuals forcing their way into the hospital and destroying property.
Chairs, windows, and equipment were overturned or damaged as the intruders moved through the facility, disrupting operations and damaging anything in their path.
Kitengela town witnessed high levels of chaos on Monday, July 7, 2025, as part of the wider unrest tied to the 35th anniversary of Saba Saba.

Roads were barricaded with burning tyres, businesses were vandalised, and confrontations between police and demonstrators escalated throughout the day.

Residents expressed concern over the intensity of the violence and the breakdown in public order. “It has become very unsafe. Shops are closed, roads blocked, and now even hospitals are being targeted,” said one resident, who requested anonymity for safety reasons.
Police officers deployed in the area struggled to contain the situation as running battles with protesters continued into the evening.
Tear gas was fired sporadically, but the sheer number of demonstrators overwhelmed efforts to maintain calm.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the hospital. Meanwhile, calls for restraint and protection of public facilities have intensified, with health activists condemning the attack on a hospital as a violation of humanitarian standards.
As of 7:00 p.m., Kitengela remained on high alert.
