Speaking at a local TV station on Monday, October 20, 2025,  Osotsi said the best way to honour the late ODM leader is by showing respect, unity, and restraint during the mourning period.

“I know many people loved Baba, especially members within the ODM party. I want to say that we need to respect Baba in death, just as we respected him when he was alive,” Osotsi said.

He proposed that the party observe a 30-day mourning period in line with traditional African customs to allow members and supporters time to reflect on Raila’s legacy.

“The best way to respect him is to take our time to mourn him. I think we can take 30 days, the African way of mourning, to reflect on his contribution to society. And thereafter, we can engage in matters that are dear to the party and Kenyans,” he said.

Osotsi cautioned ODM members and leaders against internal wrangles during this sensitive period, urging unity and mutual respect.

“We wouldn’t want to see a scenario where people start pushing and pulling each other now that Baba has gone. We want the party to remain together. We want to respect each person’s opinion and move on as one,” he added.

His remarks come shortly after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga urged Kenyans to keep alive the dream of the late Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a true patriot whose vision for a better Kenya will live on for generations.

Taking her thoughts on X on Monday, October 20, 2025, Wanga said Raila was not just a political leader but the nation’s conscience, whose sacrifices helped shape Kenya’s democracy.

“This Mashujaa Day, we honour a son who became our conscience. His dream for a better Kenya will never die. It is now our duty to keep it alive. God Bless Kenya,” Wanga wrote.
