Veteran radio presenter Tina Ogal joins ODM to contest Embakasi East MP seat
Veteran broadcaster Tina Ogal has joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as she sets her sights on the Embakasi East constituency seat in the next general election.
The move marks a bold transition for one of Kenya’s most recognisable radio voices, who has spent over two decades building an influential career in broadcasting before turning her attention to the political arena.
The party confirmed her entry on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during a meeting where its acting Secretary General, Catherine Omanyo, received new aspirants. Ogal, a long-serving broadcaster and media manager, joined alongside other hopefuls from Nairobi and other counties as ODM continues its internal reorganisation and recruitment drive.

From the mic to the ballot
Ogal is best known for co-hosting an evening show on a local radio station alongside Munai Generali, a programme that has run for more than 16 years and built a devoted following across the country.

She rose to Head of Radio at the station in 2024, taking over from longtime colleague Jeridah Andayi.
Her interest in governance is not new. Ogal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s in Diplomacy from the same institution, which align with her previously stated legislative ambitions.
A career built on resilience
Ogal’s media journey began in 2001 at Waumini FM, where she worked as a presenter before joining Radio Citizen in 2004.
She also did voice-over work for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) during that early phase of her career.

Those early years were not without self-doubt. Ogal has spoken openly about how, when she started, she would write out her Kiswahili links by hand and rehearse them repeatedly before going live.
Discipline and consistency, she has said, were the tools that shaped her into the celebrated Kiswahili broadcaster she is today.
With strong communication skills, a track record in industry leadership, and a name built across two decades on air, Ogal now takes her story off the airwaves and into Embakasi East, seeking to succeed Babu Owino, who has expressed interest in being the next Nairobi governor.
