Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has issued an appeal to victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), urging them to walk away from abusive relationships before the situation becomes fatal.

Mosiria spoke out on Monday, November 17, 2025,  after encountering a heartbreaking online story of a young woman currently hospitalised following a brutal assault allegedly inflicted by her boyfriend or husband.

“These GBV cases have become too many lately. Relationships and marriages are supposed to be sacred spaces where respect, peace, and love live rent-free. No one deserves to suffer inside a union that’s meant to protect them,” Mosiria said.

Further, he cautioned women against dating men who use hardship as a cover for manipulative or violent tendencies.

“Warembo, avoid entertaining these ‘Mr. Niko Down Saii, Ngoja Deal iivane’ types. You’ll feel sorry for him and start bankrolling his lifestyle… but when those deals finally ‘mature’, the man unlocks wicked traits that were hidden in poverty and turns against you,” he added.

Mosiria also referenced the recent incident involving former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter, whom her husband allegedly assaulted.

He praised Sonko for remaining calm and stepping in as a responsible parent to protect his daughter and grandchildren.

“These barbaric actions from violent and irresponsible partners rarely end well. Too often, families end up receiving tragic calls to collect the remains of their loved ones from the mortuary. It’s always better to take precautions early before a bad situation becomes irreversible,” Mosiria added.

“If you’re being assaulted, disrespected, or mistreated in your marriage or relationship, just call it quits. Don’t sit there hoping he’ll change. Most violent partners don’t magically transform; many escalate. Staying could cost you your peace, your health, or even your life.”

Condemning the assault on the hospitalised lady, Mosiria emphasised that no excuse exists for violence against women.

“No woman, whether she’s your wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, auntie, or even your no-nonsense grandmother, deserves to be beaten. Women are delicate, precious beings… not punching bags or stress relievers. They deserve love, dignity, and protection—not flying fists and broken morals,” he said.

“Let’s end this GBV madness. You’re not obligated to stay in a violent home. Wishing this lady a full and speedy recovery.”
