Nairobi Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has strongly refuted claims that he is merely a content creator chasing fame through his videos, insisting that his work is aimed solely at educating the public and exposing unlawful behaviour.

Speaking in a video premiered by a local TV station on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, after some critics dismissed his documentation of enforcement actions as entertainment, Mosiria challenged how anyone could label him a content creator when his videos often capture official government operations.

According to Mosiria, the Gen Z protesters who occupied Parliament during the June 2024 demonstrations demanded to see evidence of government actions, and his videos, which document his official duties, should be regarded as fulfilling that demand rather than dismissed.

“When Gen Zs were occupying Parliament, they said they wanted to see what the government was doing, and now when I am doing and documenting and trying to create awareness and educate, someone is calling me a content creator. How do you become a content creator when you are posting an enforcement action?”

On that note, Mosiria also spoke about his signature introductory phrase, “Kwa majina naitwa Geoffrey Mosiria Katibu Mkuu wa Mazingia Gatuzi la Nairobi,” which has recently gained unexpected popularity after being remixed into a club banger.

He reacted to the development with humour, highlighting the irony of his serious work becoming a party hit.

“It is like being in a club where the music suddenly stops, and then you hear my signature intro being used as a club mix banger: ‘Kwa majina naitwa Geoffrey Mosiria, Katibu Mkuu wa Mazingira Gatuzi la Nairobi.’”

Babu Owino beef

Addressing a longstanding personal dispute with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Mosiria explained that their rivalry began during their university days when they were opponents on campus.

He stated that he has not obsessed over Babu since then but lamented that Babu persistently taunted him, accusing him of being sent to bars to harass people rather than to regulate clubs playing loud music.

“Personally, after campus, yes, on campus we were opponents. After I left, I forgot about campus. And he always said that he is the only person who could make it beyond campus. He started attacking me, saying that I was being sent to bars to harass people,” Mosiria said.

He clarified that his intention has never been to harass anyone but to carry out his work with evidence.

“Ideally, I am not harassing a person. I go with evidence; I document and post for others to see and for those breaking the law to know it is wrong.”

Leaked messages

Mosiria also dismissed viral WhatsApp screenshots that accused him of hiring goons, pointing out technical inconsistencies in the leaked messages.

He noted that legitimate WhatsApp group numbers always start with the country code “+254,” whereas the circulated screenshots bore numbers beginning with “07,” indicating they were fabricated.

“WhatsApp group numbers always start with +254, not the format that has been circulating. So those allegations are baseless.”
