Mosiria rescues 2 boys from angry mob, warns against crime

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has recounted a dramatic incident along Thika Road where he intervened to rescue two young men from an angry mob after they were allegedly linked to phone snatching.
Mosiria shared the account on social media and urged young people to avoid crimes because it puts them in danger.
Three suspects reportedly caught
Mosiria said he came across a mob that had surrounded two young men who were allegedly involved in stealing phones from pedestrians using a motorcycle.
According to the people at the scene, the suspects had allegedly come from a political rally and, after the rally, turned to stealing from members of the public.
“Three suspects were reportedly caught,” Mosiria stated.
He said the situation quickly became violent, with one of the suspects allegedly being badly beaten and set on fire. The motorcycles were also vandalised by members of the angry crowd.
Mosiria said he intervened after the mob also threatened to kill the other two young men.
“I intervened and helped rescue two others whom the mob was also threatening to kill,” he said.
Police officers subsequently arrived and took control of the situation.
Mosiria warns youth against crime
Reflecting on the incident, Mosiria expressed concern over young people getting involved in crime and urged them to avoid stealing as a means of making a living.
“This is deeply sad and disturbing. To our young people: please stay away from crime. Stealing is not a shortcut to a better life, and crime can cost you your freedom or even your life,” he said.
In Kiswahili, his message was essentially: “Kwa vijana wetu, tafadhali jiepusheni na uhalifu. Wizi si njia ya mkato ya kupata maisha bora, na uhalifu unaweza kugharimu uhuru wenu au hata maisha yenu.”
Message to politicians
Mosiria also directed his message at politicians who mobilise young people to attend political rallies, urging them to do more for the youth beyond bringing them together for political events.
“And to politicians who bring young people to political rallies, please do more than mobilise them for crowds,” he stated.
He called for young people to be empowered through opportunities, skills and meaningful work, saying this could help them build better futures instead of being pushed towards crime.
“A young life is too valuable to be lost this way. Crime is not the answer, and mob justice is not justice either,” Mosiria added.
While the young men were accused of phone snatching, Mosiria’s account does not establish their guilt. The incident, however, has highlighted concerns surrounding street crime, youth vulnerability and the dangers of mob justice.
