Skit maker Daniel Njugi reveals how his love story with Spanish girlfriend began

Skit maker and comedian Daniel Njugi has opened up about how his love story with his Spanish girlfriend began, revealing that their relationship started with conversations about music.
Speaking during an interview on the Kisiangani Podcast on Friday, August 28, 2026, Njugi said the two initially connected through their shared interest in music before their conversations gradually became more personal.
Njugi said their early conversations revolved around music, with the two also exchanging stories about their different cultures.
“It was about music. Then it was about curiosities of each other. Also, like, cultural exchange. Like, ‘Oh, here we do it this way,’ these types of things here and there,” he said.
At the time, his girlfriend was living in Germany, where she was pursuing a career as a professional ballet dancer.
Njugi said they continued communicating for about six to seven months before finally meeting in person.
She came to Kenya
His girlfriend eventually travelled to Kenya during her holiday, cancelling a trip with a friend because she wanted to meet Njugi.
She recalled arriving late at night and becoming worried when Njugi was not at the airport to pick her up.
Njugi explained that the two had ended up at different terminals after misunderstanding her arrival point.

His phone then fell, causing the SIM card and battery to come out, further complicating their efforts to find each other.
They eventually reunited at the airport and began their time together in Kenya.
Unexpected first meeting
Their first day in Kenya came with another surprise after the accommodation his girlfriend had booked near the airport turned out not to exist.
Njugi said they had to find a hotel instead.
The pair had initially planned to sleep in separate beds because they had discussed the possibility that they might not connect when they finally met.

Njugi said they had agreed that, even if things did not work out romantically, he would still show her around Kenya before they went their separate ways.
That plan quickly changed.
“She was beautiful. And the rest is history,” Njugi said.
His girlfriend is a professional ballet dancer who works with Stuttgart Ballet in Germany.
She began training in rhythmic gymnastics as a child before moving to ballet at the age of five. She later received a scholarship to study in London, worked in Portugal and eventually joined Stuttgart Ballet.
Njugi has continued his career as a comedian and skit maker while also releasing music under his own name.
