Gang Suppression Force dismisses reports of Kenyan officer’s death in Haiti

A joint security team in Haiti has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that another Kenyan police officer was killed during ongoing anti-gang operations.
In a detailed statement shared on X on Monday, October 20, 2025, the Gang Suppression Force (GSF) clarified that no Kenyan officer had died during their latest mission in Artibonite and Port-au-Prince.
The multi-agency task force described the rumours as misleading and assured that all officers involved in the operation were safe.

According to GSF, the operation, conducted jointly with the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAD’H), took place on October 17, 2025 between 6:30 am and 10:00 pm.
The team’s objective was to clear the Petite-Rivière–Liancourt–Pont Sondé route, a key stretch that criminal gangs had blocked.
“Despite resistance from elements of the Gran-Griff gang, the joint GSF and PNH team remained steadfast in achieving its primary mission to clear the main road and ensure the safe delivery of armoured vehicles to various police stations,” the statement read.

The force said that during the final stages of the operation, gang members tried to reinforce their defences by digging trenches and hurling Molotov cocktails from nearby buildings, but the specialised GSF units successfully neutralised the threat.
“Contrary to some misleading reports circulating on social media, no Kenyan officer was killed during the operation.
The GSF sincerely thanks the Haitian population for their continued cooperation,” the agency stated.
The GSF also reported that joint day and night patrols continue across major Haitian regions, focusing on neutralising gang networks, protecting infrastructure, and securing transport routes.
The team praised all officers for their resilience and dedication in restoring peace and order to Haiti.
The clarification comes amid growing concern over the safety of Kenyan personnel deployed in the troubled Caribbean nation.
