Gachagua responds to Mudavadi over his manners abroad

Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has hit back at Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who had challenged his mannerism abroad.
In response to Mudavadi’s remarks that Gachagua had exported bad manners to the USA, the DCP Party leader on Sunday, July 20, 2025, stated that he is an honest man who would not change his character just because he was on foreign soil.
“I had the likes of Musalia say that I have come here to soil the good name of our country. I want to say that Kenya is a good country and nobody has a problem with Kenya; we have a problem with bad leadership,” Gachagua remarked.
Cost of living
“It is dishonest for Musalia to expect me to come to the States and cheat people that things are working, while they know they are not working well. I don’t need to tell you that SHA is not working; you know it because you are the ones taking care of your parents back at home.”

He vowed to continue telling his truth to the diaspora despite calls back at home that he appears patriotic.
“I don’t need to come here and cheat you that the cost of living is manageable. You already know that the shopping you used to do for your parents worth Ksh10,000 before Ruto became president; today you need Ksh30,000 to do the same shopping,” Gachagua noted.
Truthful man
“I want to tell leaders back at home that I am a truthful man in Kenya and abroad, and I think it is unfair for leaders back at home to expect me to change my character simply because I am in the United States,” he added.
He further stated that it would be disrespectful to lie to Kenyans abroad about the cost of living and whether things were working or not.
“I have been truthful in Kenya, I will remain truthful in the USA, and when I go back, I will even be more truthful because you will have told me a lot of things,” Gachagua stated.
“It is disrespectful to tell any Kenyan today that things are working. Fuel prices have shot up by 8 shillings for diesel and nine shillings for petrol, and it has a ripple effect,” he noted.
“We cannot come here and pretend so that we look nice and say that we love our country and are so patriotic, yet we are lying to the people.”
