Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has broken his silence hours after former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga stormed his spouse Pastor Dorcas Rigathi’s prayer event in Nyeri.

Taking to his official X account on Saturday, January 18, 2025, Gachagua fingered the President William Ruto-led government in the incident that saw the prayer meeting disrupted.

Gachagua blames govt

According to Gachagua, the government had stooped too low by what he has termed as unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar.

“Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar is the lowest any government can go, no matter the level of desperation,” Gachagua stated.

Maina Njenga intrudes event

The drama unfolded on Saturday afternoon at the Kamukunji Stadium in Nyeri after Njenga disrupted a prayer session led by Pastor Dorcas.

Njenga was accompanied by a group of youths, and upon their arrival, speakers at the podium were forced to cut short their speeches.

Leaders present, led by Nyeri Deputy Governor Waroe Kinaniri and the former second lady, left in a huff fearing reprisal from the youths.

Members of the congregation, mainly women, also left as tension escalated with Njenga and his youths chanting victory songs.

However, the prayers proceeded despite the chaos, with youths at one time kneeling on their feet seeking God’s forgiveness.

Pastor Dorcas had on Friday, January 17, invited Kenyans to attend the prayer event.

“We are already preparing for tomorrow’s prayers at Kamukunji Stadium, Nyeri, and we warmly welcome you to join us for this special day of seeking God together.

“Let us come together in unity and faith as we lift our voices in prayer for our nation. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14. See you there!” Pastor Dorcas stated in a statement shared via her official Facebook account.

Njenga’s meetings in Nyeri

This is the second time Njenga has attended prayers in Nyeri, the bastion of the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.

At the start of the year, Njenga, who started supporting President Ruto’s administration after he was acquitted in his cases, vowed to counter and undermine leaders opposed to President William Ruto, including the ousted Rigathi Gachagua.

The relationship between Gachagua and Maina Njenga has been characterized by tension and conflict, primarily due to political rivalry and differing ideologies.

Gachagua, on the other hand, has publicly accused Njenga of attempting to revive the Mungiki sect, which is an outlawed group associated with criminal activities in Kenya.
