Gachagua engages Kenyans in Seattle, vows to fight for a better Kenya

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged to intensify his political efforts following discussions with Kenyans in Seattle, Washington State, during his ongoing tour of the United States.
In a statement posted on his Facebook account on Friday, July 11, 2025, Gachagua described his engagement with the Kenyan diaspora community in Seattle as fruitful, saying it had given him a deeper sense of the concerns Kenyans in the diaspora have about the state of the country.
“I had an engaging and fruitful deliberation with Kenyans in Seattle, Washington State. I have heard their concerns about our nation and their hope for a better Kenya, which we, the DCP Party, believe in and share with them like every other Kenyan wishing to be heard,” Gachagua stated.

Diaspora concerns
Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), expressed concern over what he termed as growing disillusionment among Kenyans both at home and abroad.
“I am deeply concerned by the pain every Kenyan in every corner of the world has on the direction our beloved Nation is taking,” he noted.

According to the former DP, these grievances have only strengthened his resolve to challenge the current political leadership and push for reforms.
“This gives us the greatest impetus to move forward strongly more than ever before to liberate our Nation,” he said.

Gachagua also praised the character of Kenyans globally, describing them as people known for their work ethic and honesty.
“Kenyans are a candid people world-over; known for hard work and forthrightness,” he wrote in the statement.
Warm welcome in Seattle
Gachagua arrived in Seattle on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at around 3:40 pm local time (1:40 am Friday, Kenyan time), kicking off a two-month tour of the United States.
It is his first foreign trip since his impeachment in October 2024.
He was received at SeaTac International Airport by members of the Kenyan diaspora alongside his wife, Dorcas Gachagua, who is accompanying him on the tour.
“Let me thank you, good people, for the warm welcome,” he told the crowd gathered at the airport.

Dorcas also addressed the welcoming party, saying, “Thanks, people of Seattle, for welcoming us. We were here the other day, and you welcomed us. We are already feeling at home, from home.”
Packed itinerary
The Seattle stop marks the first of several scheduled events across the US, including town halls and community engagements in Dallas, California, Boston, and Baltimore.
“Let me take this opportunity to welcome everyone who will be engaging us tomorrow and the day after, when we have ngemi (celebration),” Gachagua said in a separate interview.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing our people… to catch up, to know how they have been… and also to tell them how back home is,” he added.
Gachagua has framed the US tour as part of his broader mission to rally the Kenyan diaspora around a reform agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.
