Gachagua: Ruto’s inner circle wants to stop me from flying to States

Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused close allies of President William Ruto of trying to block his travel to the United States.
Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Gachagua claimed that people close to the President had called his team earlier in the day, issuing threats meant to intimidate him and prevent his departure.
“I have been threatened by people close to William Ruto who called some of my people today. They said they would stop me from leaving the country,” he said.
Despite the warnings, Gachagua confirmed that he would still board his flight to the U.S. later in the evening, stating that he intended to engage Kenyans in the diaspora on matters concerning the state of the nation.
He noted that although he would have preferred to remain in the country during this difficult time for Kenyans, he had prior engagements abroad that could not be postponed.
“Tonight, I will be travelling to the United States of America to talk to Kenyans in the diaspora about the state of the nation. I would have wanted to stay in the country at this very difficult time, when our people are under siege. But I have engagements that I am not able to postpone,” the impeached DP stated.
Gachagua stood his ground, daring those behind the threats to confront him at the airport.

“I have no problem. If you want to come and arrest me at the airport as you are threatening us, you can go ahead. You cannot sell fear to us,” he declared.
Adding:
“Therefore, as I am out, unless I am stopped, which I will be okay with since it is my country, we have made sufficient arrangements to create a pool of lawyers for our young people who are being persecuted.”
U.S. trip
The trip, which is expected to last two months, will see Gachagua meet Kenyans in various states, including Texas. He said the goal is to reconnect with the diaspora and encourage them to reinvest in Kenya.
“They went there many years ago and have become very wealthy, but here we are struggling. I have gone to look for those people in places like Texas and urge them to return and support us,” he said during a church service on June 29, 2025.
Gachagua has increasingly found himself at odds with President Ruto since their fallout last year. He believes his growing political troubles stem from his push to champion development in his home region of Wamunyoro.
