Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned the violence and chaos that erupted during the launch of his new political party in a lengthy late-night statement shared on his social media platforms on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

The incident, which unfolded shortly after the official launch, saw the event descend into disarray after unknown goons stormed the venue, resulting in a heavy shouting match and disruption.

Gachagua directly pointed fingers at the government, accusing it of orchestrating the attack.

He stated that state-sponsored goons were behind the chaos and warned the administration against targeting him, his family, and his supporters.

“Stop sending goons to attack me, my family, and my supporters. We have rights and freedoms to enjoy like other Kenyans,” Gachagua wrote.

According to the former deputy president, the president has resorted to desperate tactics after losing Kenyans’ trust.

He urged President William Ruto to be a gentleman and accept that the people have moved on.

”Like a gentleman, just accept that you lost the trust and support of the people and move on,” Gachagua said.

Citing a series of past events where his political meetings have been disrupted by goons, Gachagua maintained that this pattern is no coincidence.

He believes these attacks are part of a broader plan to intimidate and silence him. Despite the increasing political tension, he vowed to continue engaging with Kenyans and pushing forward his agenda.

The opposition

This comes at a time when Gachagua has officially launched his party, the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP), during an event held in Lavington.

During the launch, he assigned key roles to his close allies—individuals who have stood by him since his impeachment.

The party is now expected to serve as a vehicle for the former deputy president to unite the Mt. Kenya region as he prepares to form alliances with leaders from other parts of the country.

His ultimate goal is to build a formidable team capable of sending President Ruto home and ensuring he becomes a one-term president.

Several like-minded individuals have expressed interest in working closely with Gachagua.

These include Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and PLP Party leader Martha Karua.

While all of them have shown interest in the presidency, they have agreed that only one will fly the coalition’s flag, with the rest pledging to support the chosen candidate.
