Didmus Barasa warns youths against being used by politicians to cause chaos

Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has cautioned youths against being used by politicians to cause chaos at opponents’ political rallies.

Addressing the residents of Bungoma County on Thursday, July 17, 2025, Barasa urged them not to be manipulated by politicians into violence and unrest, emphasising that those inciting chaos are not fighting genuine causes but rather exploiting vulnerable youth as pawns.

Barasa has also denounced a tactic by some politicians who deliberately plant youth in rival political meetings, offering them meagre payment and weapons, and instructing them to intimidate or harass citizens.

“Vijana wetu sikilizena msikubali kupatiwa pesa kidogo ukuje na mipini upige wananchi hakuna haja ya kuchukua mpini kuenda kwa mkutano ya kisiasa ambaye mtu amepanga alafu mnapiga wamama,” he warned.

He further urged politicians who resort to using goons to disrupt opponents’ meetings to instead organise their gatherings rather than causing chaos.

Wewe ita mkutano yako uko watu wakuje huko wasikilize huko,” he added.

Gubernatorial bid

Barasa, who has been traversing the county as he popularises his gubernatorial bid, vowed to continue holding consultative rallies and engaging with the residents, adding that his dream of becoming Bungoma governor is still valid.

“Wakati tulianza hii safari 2022 wengi walisema nitachoka sitaenda mbali, na mimi nawaambia safari hii ambayo nimeianza siwezi punguza nitaendelea mbele na kufanya mikutano ya kusalimia wananchi,” he added.

This comes after he has firmly declared his intention to contest the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections, asserting that no one can stand in his way.

Addressing the residents of Kabuchai constituency on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Barasa called on Bungoma voters to support his ambition.

He also cautioned that those hunting him will not succeed.

I want to tell them they will try, they will attempt, and they will execute, but they will not succeed.

Barasa will be contesting against Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi, whose gubernatorial bid has received endorsement from 18 elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from Bungoma County.
